Writing good prompts

The quality of the output depends on how specific your instructions are. Here are some examples:

Too vague:

“Write a note about productivity”

Much better:

“Write a short Substack note (150–200 words) for indie hackers about why working in 90-minute focused blocks beats to-do lists. Conversational tone, end with a question to spark comments.”

Prompt elements that help:

  • Length — “under 200 words”, “2–3 short paragraphs”
  • Topic — the more specific, the better
  • Angle — contrarian take, personal story, quick tip, list, etc.
  • Audience — who is this for?
  • CTA — should it end with a question, a link, a call to action?

💡 Tip

Set your audience description in Settings so StackSweller automatically adds it to every prompt. This keeps the tone consistent without you having to repeat it.

Editing the output

The generated note opens directly in the editor. It’s a starting point — edit freely. The AI won’t re-generate unless you click Regenerate (which uses another credit).
